After my recent dabble in Glam Glow face masks (read the post all about those here) I’ve been keen to try more from the brand, so when I saw the Glam Glow stand in Sephora in LV last year, I had a look through what else was available. I’d seen influencers raving about the Glowstarter Mega Illuminating Moisturiser when that launched but being oily, I knew it wouldn’t be for me. So when I spotted the matte lover’s alternative, in the basket it went.

Now the words Matte and Glow don’t go together too often – it’s almost a contradiction. But it’s a look that I strive for every day of my life. I’m oily, so I want my skin to stay matte but I don’t want to look flat and dry, I want my skin to look healthy and have some glow to it. So this moisturiser sounds, in theory, to be made for me. I had high expectations.
The moisturiser has an odd texture, in fact when you first open the pot it’s like a solid block of wax. However, as soon as you try to swipe some out, it melts a little making it easy to get a good amount out. Something you will see in every single review of this product is people mentioning the scent – it’s like an orange creamsicle, very sweet but with a creaminess to it. I absolutely love it, but some may find it off putting as it is quite strong and does linger.
Once on the skin, this melts in beautifully. It leaves my skin feeling matte but looking glowing – I don’t know how but as the name suggests, it does. I find all my makeup applies perfectly on top, I’ve not found any which react strangely with it. Something which I experience a lot is product pilling up when I use certain moisturisers but I’ve not experienced that with this one.
The main thing which I was hoping it would help with is oil control throughout the day. Now I use a lot of primers and foundations which help with this too but I’ve done a lot of trial and error over the years finding which moisturisers screw it up and which don’t. So I know when moisturisers are up to the task after one use. And I can tell you this one has impressed me more than any other. It’s amazing. I have played around and tried this with my less mattifying foundations and still found it’s kept my oils at bay. It also doesn’t clog my pores and cause morning-after breakouts which is always a big plus!
My only problem with this moisturiser is… I am tight so I don’t want to use it every day because then I’ll need to repurchase it! Although I do actually think it’s worth the £40 price tag, I just prefer to use something a little less expensive on the daily as I get through it too quickly (plus I have a drawer full of moisturisers which need using up before I buy more!). But whenever I am going out somewhere other than work, I will use this moisturiser ever single time. And I am sure that when the time comes for me to repurchase for this use only, I will do so happily.
Have you tried this moisturiser? Or have you tried others from the Glam Glow range? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. Thank you so much for reading…
