I love catching up with family and friends and asking “what are you watching at the minute?” as we’re always looking for the next series to binge watch! So by writing this What’s On Rhi’s TV series, I’m hoping I’m helping you guys find your new favourite TV show. I may also start a movie version of this series as a bonus monthly post, so if that’s something you’d be interested in reading then let me know!
Love Island | ITV 2 | Reality, Romance
OK – who hasn’t been watching Love Island?! This is actually the first year I’ve watched it. Well, apart from the original celebrity Love Island from back in the day, I loved that! But I was hooked from the start of this Summer. As I’m writing this, it’s literally just finished and I have to admit, towards the end I was ready for it to finish. Not only so I can get my evenings back but because it was getting a bit boring and predictable – even the winners were predictable, we all knew from the start that they’d win (notice I’m giving no spoilers here!). Overall though, I have loved watching it and I’m already looking forward to next year’s. I may even fill in the time by watching old seasons on Netflix.
Would I recommend it? Definitely.
Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger | Amazon Prime | Action, Adventure, Drama
As much as I love Marvel movies, I’ve never enjoyed a Marvel TV show. Until this one. I was gripped from the first episode. It’s very easy to watch and I find the main characters really likeable. It feels different from other Marvel productions, in fact it doesn’t feel connected to the rest of the MCU at all.
Would I recommend it? Yes, if you like comic book / fantasy shows.
The Handmaid’s Tale| Channel 4| Drama, Sci-Fi
I remember reading the book at in English at school and I absolutely hated it. I went to an all girls school so it felt like they were really trying to brainwash us with feminism, when to be honest, I didn’t wanna hear it. Fast forward to
nearly 20 years an unspecified amount of years later and I feel much more strongly about it. This is such a gripping series, and is very shocking in places. What’s incredible about it is how it’s stayed relevant over the years and is perhaps more relevant now than it has ever been. Watching the show has made me want to revisit the book so I’ve got it downloaded ready to read soon.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely yes!
The Mindy Project | Comedy
An oldie but a goodie. I used to watch this religiously when it was on E4 (I think it was E4) but when season 3 finished, it never came back and I was gutted. It’s finished for good now *sob* but I’m still on season 4. I have a massive girl crush on Mindy Kaling, and I truly believe we could be best friends! This show makes me laugh out loud. To me, Mindy’s character is the ultimate girl boss and everything I want to be in life!
Would I recommend it? If you’re looking for a light-hearted, easy to binge comedy then yes.
Poldark | BBC and Netflix | Drama, History, Romance
Since one of my fave shows ever, Downton Abbey, finished I’ve been looking for something to fill the period drama void in my life. Someone at work had told me about Poldark and they seemed to think it’d be right up my street. Dan recently went away for a week, and knowing how much he hates this kind of thing, I started watching. It gave me all the Downton feels and I loved it from the start. OK first off, how could I not love watching Aidan Turner for hours on end? The locations are beautiful, the characters are engaging and it’s easy to get lost in several episodes at a time. Within the week Dan was away, I’d smashed the 2 seasons on Netflix. I’m still on season 3 now, so I’m not up to date with the recent episodes but still loving every minute.
Would I recommend it? If like me you loved Downton Abbey, then I think you’d like this too.
To see the shows I’ve previously mentioned, you can catch up with episodes #3 here and #4 here. If you’re wondering where episodes #1 and #2 are… they were on my old domain and never got transferred over : (
I’d love to hear what shows you’ve been loving as I’m always looking for more recommendations so let me know in the comments below please! Thank you so much for reading…
