So this feels weird. The last time I posted was before Halloween, and even then I wasn’t feeling the content at all. To be honest, it’s been a long time since I really felt like writing on my blog. So to start 2019, I wanted to share some of my thoughts, plans and aspirations for the next 12 months.
It’s the biggest cliche in the world but… I don’t want to make resolutions this year as I never stick to them and always feel like a failure when I inevitably give up. So this year I’m twisting it slightly and making plans for things I hope to achieve in 2019. I’m not putting pressure on myself to change, just encouraging myself to work towards better things.
~ Start a YouTube Channel ~
This is the biggest one, and explains why I’ve not been writing much. It’s something I’ve thought about doing for a long time but always talked myself out of it. But now I’m sharing it with people, I feel accountable.
My channel will have more of a focus on plus size fashion than beauty which has been my main blog focus. Although I’m a big beauty lover, user and collector, I’m not doing anything revolutionary. I’m not a makeup artist so I’m not sharing amazing tutorials. I will always adore makeup and skincare so I definitely want to talk about them on my channel but it’s such a saturated community, with more drama than I care to be involved in, that I just don’t see a point. But plus size fashion and body positivity is something I am truly passionate about. I’m not saying I’m the best dressed girl out there – I have very ordinary dress sense, but I pretty much wear whatever I want, in spite of what is considered ‘acceptable’ for my size.
In 2018, I have been heavily influenced by the curve community and in particular, Harry Jane and Sophie Payne, who have been my favourite content creators. I’m not gonna lie, they’ve been my biggest inspiration in creating a channel of my own.
What this means for my blog, I’m not quite sure about. I have not renewed my WordPress subscription for this year but I am keeping the cheapest option. I think to begin with things will be very quiet over here while I focus on my channel. But in the future I’m sure I’ll come back to my blog for the odd post. I’ll also still be keeping up with the blogs I love to read, so I won’t go completely silent.
For those of you who want to give me a little follow over on YouTube, the channel is ready and waiting – just no videos yet! You can subscribe here.
~ Fall In Love With Getting Fit ~
Mid 2018, I joined a gym (after saying last time I cancelled my membership I would never do it again). I hit it hard and actually found myself enjoying introducing some exercise into my life. I didn’t lose much weight at all, but the impact on my health and wellbeing was huge. For some reason after we came back from our holiday, I just never went back to the gym. It’s like my routine had been interrupted and I couldn’t get back into it.
But bloody hell have I felt the difference. I’m back to being out of breath just going upstairs. All my old aches and pains are back. I suffer from Sciatica, which definitely improves when I’m more active.
This might sound like a contradiction to my first point where I talked about body positivity but this really is more about my health than my appearance. Yes, Christmas and New Year have added some pounds which I’d like to shift (so I can fit back into my wardrobe full of cute clothes) but I’m more bothered about being able to go for a walk without feeling like I’ve run a marathon.
~ Step Out Of My Comfort Zone ~
My husband has got it into his head that he wants to try new activities, namely skiing and surfing! We live in Leicester so it’s not like we can nip to the nearest slopes or beach but OK, I’m going with it. These things have never appealed to me, mainly because I’m a complete wimp who is scared of falling over or going in the sea. I’ve never been the most adventurous girl and I don’t do outdoor activities but as this is something he wants to do I know it’s time for me to step out of my comfort zone and try something new.
Rather than book a big ski trip (as Dan would have wanted to do straight off the bat – seriously, he’s unbelievable) we’ve compromised on taking a trip to the Snow Dome to have a day’s skiing lesson first. At first I was just going to watch him do it, but I thought fuck it, just try it. It’s just a day, and who knows I might be a natural (doubtful as I can fall over literally nothing, but here’s hoping).
Still not sure about surfing though. One step at a time.
~ Read 12 Books ~
Every year one of my resolutions is to simply read more. I have a Goodreads account where you can set yourself an annual challenge and I always keep it manageable by saying 10. That’s less than 1 a month and yet I still never manage it! This year is different… I’ve started a book club with some friends where we are reviewing 1 book a month so I have to do it!
~ Pay Off My Debts ~
I’m seriously shit with money, always have been. I just like buying things and then I worry about it later. When I sit down and really rack up my debts it’s scary. I’ve made big dents in my debt a couple of times but it always ends up creeping back up. So this year, I’ve decided enough is enough – my finance spreadsheet is ready to go and so am I.
~ Make Some Home Improvements ~
We’ve been in our house for 5 years and in that time we’ve done very little to it, despite it needing loads doing. At the end of last year, we decided to move in about 3 years so in that time we want to get our house to a position where it’ll be ready to sell. Again, I have a spreadsheet already set up with a long list of what we need to do. That should be my motto ‘no good plan started without a spreadsheet’.
So 6 things I hope to achieve. Sounds easy right? Maybe not. But as long as I’m making steps towards these things throughout 2019, I’ll be happy when I look back this time next year.
Do you make resolutions? I’d love to hear what your hopes and aspirations are for 2019 so let me know in the comments below. Also… let me know what kind of videos you’d like to see on my YouTube channel (I need some inspo already).
Thank you so much for reading and HAPPY NEW YEAR…
